Today I learned about two different colleges and four different points of views. One of the schools I was informed on was Ottawa University; This sounds like a good school but it would not be the school for me. Ottawa University is in a very small community and I believe this would limit my opportunities to reach out and network with people who can help me get to where I would like to be in the education field. However, this university does have smaller classes meaning more one on one attention, which would be good.
Second, we learned about UMKC, which is where I would like to attend because of the IUE program they offer. This interested me because I plan on staying in my community to teach. Also this program if accepted will pay my full tuition and guarantee me a four-year teaching job and hands on experience with urban education. However the only down side to UMKC is the bigger campus and classes.
Other than information on the colleges they attend, they supplied us with EXCELLENT tips that will help us with college. The tips I heard the most was to manage time wisely, you are paying for college so if you skip class or flunk out you waist your time and money. Second was to take advantage of all resources and opportunities on and off of campus, find study groups and get to know people in every class incase you have to miss a class or need help.
