What makes a good teacher?

A teacher must possess certain characteristics to make he or she a good educator. First, being understanding is key. A understanding teacher is aware that all students are not the same and may or may not always have it easy at school or in his or her home life. Instead of yelling at the boy with his head down hold him after class and ask him why he isn’t sleeping at night because there may be more to his story than just not going to sleep on time. Also, being trustworthy is a good trait for a teacher to have. If a student has no one to go to, having a trustworthy teacher would let he or she, as your students know that they can confide in you. This will also help build relationships with students.
However, a teacher must also be patient. A patient teacher is a good teacher because not all students will work at the same pace. In addition to being patient you as a teacher must be firm but fair. Students always talk about strict teachers and how hard they push them but yet those are the teachers who have some type of impact on you rather than that teacher who let you sit and update your Facebook and twitter the whole class. If you are firm but fair you will have a little bit of both experiences. Kids wont run over you but they won’t hate you. Most important, a good teacher is creative. Kids don’t want to sit in the stereotactic classroom where the teacher lectures you and you take notes all day. Do something creative and fun, have cool activities and or snacks for your students. Thus, all of these characteristics and many more make up a good teacher.
